The National Broadband Network (NBN) is an Australian national wholesale open- access data network being rolled out and operated by NBN Co Limited. It is expected to be fully completed by June 2021.

In a nutshell, the NBN is the largest infrastructure project in Australia’s history and aims to replace an aging copper cable network with a modern optical fibre telecommunications network.

The NBN will connect Australian businesses to the internet via a super-fast fibre-optic cable that goes directly to the premises. It’s fast, and the improved internet connectivity will change the way businesses operate.

Small businesses will be more digitally connected more than ever before, enjoying opportunities the come with exceptionally fast broadband speeds. These include:

  • Improved online performance
  • Flexible working
  • Increased engagement
  • Cloud services
  • Remote business

Put simply, the NBN will help small businesses do more and do it faster.

Things small business owners should be aware of

There has been some uncertainty amongst small business owners. As parts of the existing network are being switched off businesses will need to switch themselves over to the NBN network.

Many businesses are not sure when NBN will be available in their area and information has been staggered and uncertain.

A recent survey revealed that “a shocking 67% of respondents thought that moving to the NBN was optional, and 62% thought that their existing phone system would remain active even after switching to the NBN”.1

Several stories have emerged of business owners left without phone and internet connectivity as well as EFTPOS machines that aren’t working.

It’s important to remember that switching to the NBN is mandatory, existing copper phone lines are being cut off and the roll out will ultimately affect every communication device in your business. The last thing you want is for your business to be cut off when the old network is disconnected.

Live eftpos mobile devices can give you peace of mind

The EFTPOS device you choose when switching to the NBN is an important consideration.

At Live eftpos we understand the importance of superior network coverage and signal reliability and the disastrous effect a disconnected or slow device can have on your turnover.

All Live eftpos devices are 100% mobile and take advantage of 4G mobile communication meaning that you do not require a landline to complete transactions between your business and your bank. Our use of Connectivity+ means we are constantly connecting to the strongest signal available between Telstra, Optus and Vodafone. Put simply, our devices are unaffected by the switch to NBN.

This means you are covered, have nothing to worry about and can be certain your business is not losing revenue during the crossover!
